Smoke Alarm Installation & Replacement
Queensland homes need smoke alarms that are linked together by 1 January 2027. We check what you have, tell you what needs to change, and give you a price on the spot.
Are your smoke alarms ready?
Smoke alarms don't last forever, and the rules have changed. If any of these sound like your home, it's worth getting them looked at.
- Your alarms are old, or you don't know how old they are
- They aren't linked, so one going off doesn't set the others off
- An alarm beeps, or doesn't work when you test it
- You've only ever changed the batteries
- You're renting out a home, or about to
- You've renovated, and the alarms were never moved or added to
Quote on the spot. Fixed price. No surprises.
- 1We look at it. You call or send your details and we book a time that suits you.
- 2We tell you the price there and then. A fixed price, before any work starts.
- 3You say yes, we do it. Tested before we leave. If we find extra work, we tell you and price it first.
What changes on 1 January 2027
By 1 January 2027, existing Queensland homes need photoelectric smoke alarms that are linked together, so when one goes off they all go off. Old alarms must be replaced if they've run out, stopped working, or when a home becomes a rental.

Smoke alarms, common questions
Do I need to do this?
The rule says existing Queensland homes need linked photoelectric alarms by 1 January 2027. Check the Queensland Government page to be sure about your home.
What does linked mean?
When one alarm goes off, they all go off. So you hear it wherever you are in the house.
What is photoelectric?
It's a type of smoke sensor. It's good at picking up slow, smouldering smoke.
Can I just change the batteries?
Batteries are only part of it. Alarms wear out, and older ones may not be the right type or linked. We can check what you have.
Is this the landlord's job in a rental?
Smoke alarms in a rental are the landlord's job to keep working. We can check them and fix what's needed.
How much will it cost?
It depends how many alarms your home needs. We look and tell you the price on the spot.

Three things I put in writing
Every quote you get from an electrician looks the same from the outside. Here's what's different about this one — and none of it depends on anyone but me.
The Fixed Price Promise
One fixed price for the work that needs doing.
I check the job properly before quoting, so the price covers everything it needs — no surprises on the day. If I find extra work once I'm there, I'll tell you and price it separately before doing it. You're never billed for something you didn't agree to first.
The On-Time Promise
Inside the booked window, or $50 off the job.
You get a booked window, not a vague day. If I'm not there inside it, I take $50 off the job. No excuses and nothing for you to chase.
Lifetime Workmanship Warranty
If it fails because of how I fitted it, I fix it free.
Every install is backed for as long as you own the place. If something I fitted fails because of the workmanship — not a storm event, not a manufacturer fault — I come back and make it right at no charge.
